L and I took a lovely walk on a mild, sunny day last week to the Landschaftspark Herzberge in the Lichtenberg neighborhood-and then I accidentally formatted my memory card and deleted all of the photos I took. So, when we woke up to a sunny Sunday it was the perfect time to suggest we return this time with kids in tow. By the time we got out the door the skies were grey again and it was actually quite cold but we braved the walk anyway. To get there you have to walk through Lichtenberg one of the ugliest, grittiest neighborhoods we have seen so far. Row houses, bland high rises, post war concrete buildings - many of them now abandoned, but I loved every minute of it and in the end you end up in a nature preserve that save the power lines and graffiti could almost be Maine. We even stumbled upon a football match.

I'm official- I received my Aufenthalts Erlaubnis (permission to remain) and can now legally live and work in Germany. It was a really easy process and the only down side is that I again have a sticker in my passport and not one of the new cards. Apparently they have stopped issuing the cards because they couldn't keep up with the demand as there are so many foreigners living in Berlin these days. Oh well, I'm happy with my sticker. I continue to be really happy with our decision to move here and feel more and more at home here in the city.
It is of course easy to constantly question our decision and even more so since we have children who had to come along. They are also doing well and I continue to believe that they are only benefitting from living here. The rain has returned but hopefully won't last for long and advent is right around the corner with its Christmas markets. We will be moving in mid December to a new neighborhood and I look forward to exploring and making myself at home there as well. It's only November and it might get more wintery , in fact I hope it does, but it has been very cold here. Cold and sunny! B keeps saying that it will snow any day now he can smell it in the air. I'm not sure about that- but yesterday we headed to Treptower Park and walked along the river. It was freezing but felt great. There was frost on the ground, a beautiful winter light (short but sweet) and even some live role players having a sword fight. This is our 3rd sunny day in a row after weeks of grey and we are enjoying it.
No words just fall colors this time- that's where I'm at! |
