We had some visitors from home who arrived right before the warmer weather, But they were troopers and we had fun showing them freezing Berlin. And they showed us some things as well. They recommended a museum we probably never would have visited and in honor of their being here I allowed the kids a snow day (something they were missing from home and probably wont ever experience here.) The day after our visitors left the temperature went up about 10 degrees and we have had some mild and sunny days. B even got some extra days off as his teachers were on strike so he and I enjoyed some sunny afternoons at the neighborhood playground. The days continue to be mild and are getting longer which is a pleasure.

The kiddos head back to school this week and we will return to our routine and that will be nice for a while. This weekend temperatures were milder and so we headed out to enjoy the "warmer" weather at the Park am Gleisdreiecke. The kiddos and I had been there before but on a crappy, cold day and so since L had never been, we went back and enjoyed the open space. We played football (soccer), flew a drone, took a coffee and cake break at a cafe (including some arm wrestling) and enjoyed one of several great playgrounds. It was nice to be outside enjoying the city.
It's called a compromise. The kiddos have this week off and since we all have a bit of the winter blues we wanted to plan a long weekend that would be fun for everyone. And so we traveled to Stralsund in Mecklenburg Vorpommern, a Unesco World Heritage site on the Baltic Sea and stayed in a cheesy hotel with a waterpark. The weekend truly had something for everyone. We spent part of our days in the city of Stralsund which has a really nice Ozeanium (a marine museum/aquarium), a beautiful Hanseatic old city, an impressive ancient church, a great playground and an old German navy ship. The rest of the time we were poolside at the waterpark. By the end of day one the kids had learned the schedule of nautical events- which chime signaled the hourly fake ocean waves, what gong meant the current was turned on in the canal, or that the waterfall was going to begin soon. Swaddled in white hotel robes we lounged and swam and ate and I followed everyone around with my camera.
